On August 1, at the construction site of the Wanlong Bridge in Nansha, Guangzhou, the world’s largest bridge tower crane—the XCMG XGT23000-760S—successfully passed its load test. As a super-sized piece of equipment custom-built specifically for the Wanlong Bridge, this crane will now be officially put into service for the bridge’s construction.

The Wanlong Bridge is a key project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With a main span of 608 meters, the bridge features two 127-meter-tall elliptical steel towers and holds the record for the largest-diameter steel circular tower. The unique bridge tower structure and extra-large span place higher demands on the lifting capacity, operational precision, and safety and stability of the hoisting equipment.

760-metric-ton Rated Lifting Capacity Passes Test

This load test employed a tiered loading process using water bags filled in stages. Twelve 100-metric-ton specialized water bags were used on-site to complete three tests:
· A dynamic load test at the 760-metric-ton rated load.
·A dynamic load test at 836 metric tons, equivalent to 1.1 times the rated load.
· A static load test at 950 metric tons, equivalent to 1.25 times the rated load.

 

The tests covered major operating conditions encountered during bridge construction, including routine operations and heavy-load operations. During the tests, the equipment operated smoothly, and all key performance indicators met design requirements, fully validating the safety, stability, and reliability of the XGT23000-760S in complex lifting environments involving extremely heavy loads and great heights.

Core Technologies Empower the Construction of Ultra-Large Bridges
The XCMG XGT23000-760S has a maximum lifting capacity of 760 metric tons and an attachment height exceeding 400 meters. It has achieved multiple technological innovations, including the attachment of ultra-large tower cranes at extreme heights, setting a new global record for the lifting capacity of bridge-use tower cranes.

Equipped with an intelligent management and control system, the crane can effectively handle complex operating conditions such as ultra-heavy loads, extremely high lifts, and strong winds, providing reliable lifting support for the construction of the Wanlong Bridge.

Upon completion, the Wanlong Bridge will further enhance the multimodal transportation network in the Nansha area and strengthen Nansha’s pivotal role within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area transportation system.
